My take

I  come across once in a blue moon fairy tale wherein animals behave like humans .  LET'S KIDNAP THE PRESIDENT by LALIT BHATT  falls under this category .The protagonists, four monkeys form a group to learn language and other subjects to act as humans. After reading this I become sympathetic to them. The first half relates to the struggles and challenges they meet to equip themselves with the knowledge to carry our  their desires and dreams. Their ordeals, joys and happy moments would touch our heart.

This fairy tale with satirical dosage would attract all especially children. The monkeys after frustrated by the not so fair treatment from their boss go to a village . There they come to  fathom they can also act like humans and start to study the language etc .

Then they plan to kidnap the US President and their efforts are discussed elaborately. Most of the time they meet funny situations and sometimes awkward and sad occasions.

The book gives entertainment to both young and old. This is really a story coated with philosophical ideas and notions. The author Lalit Bhatt has done an exceptional job in crafting a wonderful social drama with action and adventure. The book would definitely engage you with  suspense and humor.

This book carries the following wisdom words .
The jungle  rule is based on a simple premise which is to use the natural resources to satisfy the necessary biological needs of an individual.

Risk and reward are two sides of a coin

The more pure and positive our thoughts is the more positive energy it generates.

In the second half we can predict the strory and there is lack of drama and conflicts.
This scathingly hilarious philosophical thriller   answers the inevitable question. If  monkeys start to talk and plan like humans to what extent they would go?
This book is entertaining and emotional read. It is amazing and remarkably  good in execution.

My score  4/5

My take

EARTH TO CENTAURI THE FIRST JOURNEY by Kumar L is a great treat for Science fiction and fantasy fans. Written with passion and imagination this book targets the readers interested in science technology, adventures, and mysteries. I am a fan of  movies like Star Wars for its action scenes it is no doubt I love this book also.

The story runs during the period 2095 to 2117 at the backdrop of sky. Anara a young and energetic lady aged 25 years, takes the captionship of spaceship Antariksh along with  54 crew members including Commander Ryan. This ship was built at the Vikram Sarabhai Space center in South India, with all the facilities to withstand all the problems it may face during the journey. The spaceship proceeds towards Promia B a planet suitable for living.

In the meantime, they face radiation and power problems. They get an SOS call from an unknown vehicle. The rudimentary plan of the journey is to find out about the possibility of human lives   on other planet.

Whether they achieve the same and the ordeals and challenges they meet during the course of it form the rest of tale.

The language is simple and direct. At the beginning the pace is steady and at the end it is fast. The characters are efficient ,highly qualified and trained professionals. I  like AI ie. Artificial Intelligence named after the legend Narada .

It has got vast knowledge and its ethics programme not to endanger human lives is astounding .There is suspense at regular intervals to make it a page-turner. The tale is told in various  periods and it occurs in different locations.

Writing style is good and it can be improved .Also charterers are stereotypic lacking in emotions. Dialogues are informal.

Both concept and execution are nice. The title and the cover design are amazing. Since there would be more books in this series from Kumar  I await his next book.

I recommend this book to all Sci-fi  fans.

My score: 4/5

My take

Detective, crime and suspense novels guarantee goosebumps and at times they would shoot up our adrenaline. When they tell the tales related to
the present digital era   with the backdrop of tinsel realm of Bollywood it adds entertainment . There would be a lot of thoughts start to flow in to your minds as to the magnificence of evil  motive, suspects, and way of execution and investigation.

Tanushree Podder's A CLOSETFUL OF SKELTONS  is an enjoyable and pensive superbly phrased book.

For those who want to sit on a summer evening, the book you choose to read should  be a page turner, it should engage you to go on till the midnight with a cup of hot coffee  and this book falls under this category.

The plot

The silhouette of a man loomed in the shadows. With this tagline, the story begins. Subroto Sen,a  famous director for a run of the mill kind of movies in the Bollywood receives a call from Ramola. She is a big star acting in C-grade films  who has become a great actress ruled the Bollywood for more than a decade after his giving her a big role in his movie.

She invites him to her birthday party held at Ramsar near  Almora where she has settled at present. Similarly, she invites Sameer Kelkar aka Sammy a politician aspiring for Chief Minister's chair, Vikram Ahuja yesteryear's superstar, Arif khan a don, owning bars, casinos, and restaurants and Rohan Sharma her ex-husband.

Except Rohan others are having the tight schedule and holding high responsibility tell their inability to attend the party. Ramola says she is going to give a new announcement. This makes them all the anxiety and they try to avoid attending the party .Since the storyline is the strength of the novel further disclosure would serve as a spoiler. As such I stop here.

The pro

You have to enter into a hill station Ramsar to read the thriller that  unfolds through the eyes of many a character. Each one carries its own purpose .They play pivotal roles and the authoress had to add all the elements of humour, sentiments and the thrill and chill. While reading the story you can picture the happenings and it would be etched in your minds since it is penned in a subtle manner.

The title and cover design are amazing. The succinct  blurb would instill an interest in you to read the book. This fast-paced thriller has got so much suspense, twists and turns to engage you through the story. The language is amazing and the narrative prose is impressive.

The storyteller in the authoress Tanushree Podder leads it to be a page turner. Creation of Charectors  is superb.   The language is so smooth you can visualize the events and situations as though all happen in front of  your eyes.

The descriptive prose highlighting the beauty of Ramsar the picturesque of sceneries, the greenery , the cold climate and  the good nature of people allures us.There is a plethora of characters which include Durgabai, Dinesh, and Ganesh employees, DSP Jung Bahadur Singh aka JBS, Tia assistant of Ramola .The story flows with all the funny situations to evoke laughter as well as horrible occasions to shock you.

My favourite

Ramola  the protagonist,  beautiful and intelligent actress is   ambitious   ruthless,  shrewd impetuous vile and vindictive and she carries the whole tale with ease and wisdom.
The shrewd  and intelligent retired army officer, Colonel Arjun.H. Acharya is also my favorite as he is the person with a keen intuition of Sherlock homes who unravels all the dark secrets and unfurls the mystery . His bonding with Tim Thapa the Sub inspector is beguiling. Motive, Means and opportunity (MMO) technique used by him is elaborately discussed.

Human behaviour was a complex thing it often gave away innermost feelings and motives of a person.

Tia Apte young and charming   tourist befriends Ramola and helps her for pulishing her memoir. She plays a pivotal role in moving this story.

What I feel

While the story goes on seamless at times it seems stretched to build up to curiosity. There is a scope for improvement in the editing aspect. It needs a fresh editing due to grammatical errors.

 My verdict

It is no wonder Tanushree storytelling style has  enchanted me from the beginning to the end.She has masterfully spun a story about the personal struggles hardships and joys and happiness of the actress .It is a heart-wrenching story and there is  a strong plot strengthened by the interesting subplots.

It is an emotionally intuitive and impeccably written tale focusing on the story of deception and evil.

I like this wonderful   book for all the thrill and chillness it can create in us a great entertainment. The cover design by Natasha Chandhok is fantabulous.I  strongly recommend this book to all fans of crime thrillers.

My score  4/5

My take

Any contemporary political crime thriller is capable of attracting both youngsters and elders as politics is a great subject for them. If it blends with romance and social awareness theme it is a triple bonanza.

Gifted writer   Ankita Verma Datta has woven an intellectual, intriguing and suspenseful,  page-turner TRUST ME NOT.

It tells the story of romance, revenge, and retribution. This is such a wonderful book I felt a kinship with it from the beginning.  After I started to read I decided to complete it at one go.This powerful political drama tells about how the rotten social system toys with the powerless and poor people.
Making them sacrificial lambs in the hands of greedy rich people would definitely make an indelible impact on you.

The plot

The book carries 18 chapters and ends with an Epilogue and what happens after 3 years

Set in contemporary time with the backdrop of cosmopolitan city Mumbai the story begins with Mr. Sehgal, Chairman of Creative Adzone a media company appoints his assistant  Reeva Rai as Assistant Vice president of MVPR, a new extension of Public Relations wing. Nihaal Kapoor works with her as the creative director.

She lives in Mumbai along with her parents and his brother Apoorva. Her friend is Kinsy.

In MVPR her boss is Kunnal Kabi, 33 year old rich highly qualified professional   featured on the front page of CEO Vision.

Shalini Ray from Kolkata joins Creative Adzone to handle the PR projects. Jaiwal and Thapur construction groups form an alliance J&T Infra Developers Ltd.It becomes a client to MVPR.

In the meantime, this concern takes charge of  JBP’s campaign at the request of the Rishi  Uttur a former Union  Home  Minister. Their rival is NPP.

The election date is announced and the game starts. It leads to myriad knots and when they are unfurled the revelations have  surprised  me.

You would also experience the same sort of thrill when you read the book.
The pro

Both the title and cover go with the theme of the book. The book deals on the dilemma the present youngsters face when they have to distinguish between friendship and love, the nexus between the corporate barons and politicians and the recklessness indulged by the media in giving sensational news for enhancing the viewership and TRP rating.

The language is fresh and appealing. The fast-paced novel doesn’t leave you until the end.  The plot is  conceptualized with perfect coherence and executed in a grand way.The concise blurb gives a hint about the powerful thunderstorm

My favorite

I admire  Nandita  Sahay the social activist for all her love and affection shown towards residents of Navdeep complex.

Nandita had a desire to work for good causes without feeling like a martyr or wallowing in self-pity There was no larger-than-life, self-righteous drama about her.

I hate Jaiswal partner of J&T firm for his nefarious aactivities .I appreciate Reeva for her dedication to her job. Ajay Sehgal calls her an asset to the company.

Charming and charismatic Kunnal is adventurous ..

I like Uttur as he is an honest and pensive politician thinking about the welfare of the people.

Arunabh Roy an overambitious journalist devoured by success and power gives a very good message to his fellow workers in the media at the end.

Philosophical words  which have caught my attention

You can run everything except yourself

Life choices can’t be based on compromises.

Once you become a cog in the wheel, you have to roll wth it.

Other characters Sathya Raj Mane   acting CM, Dr.Harsh Wardhan    Manek Vir  ex military person  have contributed equally  to the main plot

What I feel

For this amazing social drama, the cover looks simple and not so eye-catching. Paper quality and printing are nice and there are a few negligible  spelling mistakes.

My verdict

The beauty of the book is that with a piercing unforgettable loveliness and a nuanced understanding it depicts the real world and its tangled society.

Ankita  has penned a riveting warm wise whodunit about love loss and trust and finding strength and courage amidst of crookedness, greediness, and insecurities.

If you enjoy the political thriller blended with romance this is the book for you. This book shapes and alters your views on social issues and makes you give a second thought to what you see and hear.

I strongly recommend this novel to all fans for contemporary poloitical romance thrillers.

My score: 5/5

My take

I thank Writersmelon for having sent the free copy of this amazing book for my review..
Historical thrillers are so fantastic in the sense they are true at heart and  successful in portraying what was real ,  what would have happened as the period set in , and  back drop are kept intact. They would be emotional  leaving you strong and your mind happy at the end.

I am glad to read them as they give lessons and feel enlightened about the ancient wisdom.

By interspersing the events that took place during the Maurya era the author Ravi Shankar Etteth tells the stunning  story of The Brahmin  and how his wit and wisdom  safeguard the King Ashoka from his  foes.

The plot

During 267 BC in Pataliputra the capital of the Mauryan kingdom King Ashoka gives a command to The Brahmin to find out a murderer and an assassin namely Blood Flower within  one week. One of his concubines is murdered and the Brahmin’s spy has discovered the corpse in a cremation ground.
The Chief Eunuch ,the guardian of the harem is questioned by the king and he is put in jail as he is not able to give a valid answer. Lord Suma ,Kalinga’s envoy to Magadha invites The Brahmin to visit Kalinga.Prime minister Radhagupta hates The Brahmin as the king has got a soft corner for him.

In the meantime the sudden death of the Chief Eunuch shocks the king as he is killed  by someone. The Brahmin leaves for Kalinga along with his spy HaoTran . On the way they stop at an inn and there they meet Mur a stranger who is stopping there on their way to Ujjain.
From there they go to Asandhimitra and meet the Queen. There they come across another shocking news. The Viceroy Devavarman is murdered .The Brahmin is left with only 3 more days to find out the assissin Blood Flower.

The Brahmin has to solve the mystery of murders and also the motive behind the murders. So many questions arise and the book gives answers to all these questions.

The pro

There are many stories within this period  tale relating to great personalities in the Maurya Era like King Ashoka , Chanakya and Alexander. There is also the mention  of the Lankan King Ravana as it is very much relevant to the main plot. The writing is really great and it fits the mood and tone of the book without pretentiousness .The pace is even and when the end nears it is  fast. Both the concept and execution are good.

The story flows well with all the twists and turns being the page turner you would be hooked to it as you begin to read the social drama full of terror  and suspense.

My favorite.

I like the protagonist the Brahmin
People say he can hear and see everything and it is useless to hide from him. He can be everywhere ,or wherever he wants to be , whenever.

Character : I  admire Antochlius for alll his valour and shrewdness and Hao due to her dedication to her job as a spy.

I like the episode where the Brahmin saves Ashoka from the clutches of death with the help of monks in the Tamralipti monastery.

The following dialogue between the monk and the Brahmin touches my heart
“My master owns nothing , except what we give him” said the monk.
“What do you give him?”
“Our souls”

What I feel.

A map may be a fitting guide .Both the blurb and title are nice. The cover design is not so appealing. The book requires some more editing.

My verdict
Overall this book is wonderful.I loved the various themes dealt with subtleness  .Ravi has penned a literary gem with attention to minute details and indelible characters.

Readers would like the thrill with all the entertainment.
I recommend this book to all historical fiction fans.

My score 4/5
