My take

This is your typical Indian-author  285 -page adventure story throwing in a lot of tales with mature scenes and social drama  to give weightage to otherwise a basic plot.

This book has blown me away due to the action and adventures and I have not taken away the amazing and amusing experience of reading the wonderful fiction of love, freindship, pain   betrayal , and fun.

Even though the book speaks the efforts and endeavours taken by the people associated with the hydel project there are myriad experiences and events met by the MCs in an elaberote and grand manner.

The plot.

The title looks odd because I donnot know the place. The cover design suits the plot.

The strong blurb starts with the following phrase to mean what the book deals with

A HYDEL POWER PROECT IN THE REMOTE HIMALAYAS THREE PEOPLE BROUGHT THROUGH BY FATE.

There are nearly 26 chapters with a name for captions. The first chapter is Nanda. Some chapters carry the caption like The  Tunne Life.
The book starts with Nanda, the main protagonist in whose POV the story is told an engineer from Kerala , is taking a bus from Delhi to Dhauladhar where there is a hydel project is going on. His story from his birth to till date is told .

Khusru , a youth in Kasmir is working as a labourer in the same dam campsite. Rekha a Kathak dancer and also  doctor comes  to the site along with him.

All the three protagonists have  got their own stories and the whole book covers their experiences both joyful and poignant.

I do not want to speak about the storyline as it is the strength of the book  I want to say the highlights of the same for the benefit of the readers.

The pro

There are myriad subplots which are wonderfully woven to make the reading a fantastic journey. The language is beutiful and the pace is indeed fast. There are a plethora of characters and all are highly intelligent and wise.

The best part of the book is the way the story is told. It is in a ludicrous and scintillating way . We would get hooked to the narrative prose which is very excellent . There are copious happy and sad moments .
The impact of the book would remain with us for a long time. EspeaciEsp when we visit a dam we would think of the sufferings , challenges due to claimate  conditions etc , and the ordeals endured  with courage by the all involved in the project.

The happenings in the camp site form one  part of the story : but there are so many other aspects on various facets  are included in the same to engage and entertain the readers.

Sexual encounters of the MCs are described in a nice way.

My Favorite

I like all the MCs namely Nanda , Khusru and Rekha I admire Kuchi for all his sense of duty and his arrangement of cake in recognition of meeting the target. I also like the episode in which Khusru fights with the Pathan and asks the girl who was sexully assaulted by him to kill him.

The following philosophical words have caught my attention

When you are so full of sorrow you can't walk can't cry anymore ,think about the green foliage that sparkles after the rain.

Yesterday is but today's memory , tomorrow is today's dream.

Just because a child has got a big plate does not mean that the mother will serve him more.

My verdict

I love this book . Set against the backdrop of a campsite for the hydel power project the life and death situations people meet , the energy and enthusiasm shown by the professionals to achieve their dreams would enthrall us.
Kochery C Shibu with his experience in the hydroelectric projects in the Cauvery river basin in Karnataka has crafted  the novel wel to fill the readers' senses, sights and smells of the campsite. Both the Kalari and Kathak dances have played pivotal roles in moving the story

I recommend this book to all fiction lovers.  Everyone can have this book in his bookself .

My verdict    5/5

My take

When your child , the apple of your eye falls sick won’t you take all the steps for the   kid’s well being ?

Here in this novel  8 Hours we see  the heroine’s valor like a ferocious lioness  and the  shrewdness to safeguard the corporate concern which she adores like her “Baby” as it is going towards bankruptcy  .

Once I began to finish four chapters I was so wrapped up by the storyline I had to go on reading it to finish as early as possible.  I was completely swept away by the thrill  and suspense.

Upendra Namburi  a Digital & marketing professional   is so fond of numbers and he has already written two novels namely 31 and 60.
.
He has penned  powerful emotionally resonant social drama that confronts the secret about what happens behind the screen rather than what we see externally. A propulsive , incendiary novel about hope, failure , revenge,  friendship and pain ,A twisting tale of  secrets with an underlying creepiness.

The plot

There are totally 80 chapters. Each one carries the time factor for a caption. The first one starts with 1.00 am.

Aratrika Reddy, the CEO of Arya Holdings ltd  the protagonist is the only daughter of Madhusudhan Reddy founder of the same

She has been working in the corporate concern for the past ten years and elevated to the position of managing director and vice president of the same by her sheer hard work .

The trouble starts with the recall notice from the bank sent by Sunder Das threatening  if the amount is not paid the bank would take  over the ruins of the Arya concern.
The onus of saving the firm falls on the head of Aratrika . She seeks  the help of Peter Menezes  her childhood friend  presently working in the Piers largest equity firm run by Keith Connors in silicon valley  and Jaganath Reddy her father’s cousin .

There are two bidders for taking over the sick unit ie Piers and Elixir.  Elixir was started by Harshavardhan Rathore and his son Rajyavardhan Rathore is introduced in the business.
Once Aratrika  begins  her mission to save the firm , the bitter secrets come into light; indigestible truths are unfurled. So many knots are unrolled. This form the rest of the story.

The book discusses domestic violence to woman empowerment.

The pro

Nice title. The image of hourglass on the cover with dark background indicate the stroy that runs for 8 hours.

There are many  charecters , they  are intelligent smart and shrewd  at the same time some are villainous.   The main  plot is rare one.   . The subplots are awesome.  . The strength  of the novel lies on the fast pace and once you start to read means you won’t leave it until you reach  the end. The climax is a fitting one The story moves through dialogue and past events are told in flash back .

The characters are so meaty , the dialogue so intriguing , and the happenings are so realistic.

There are suspense and spine-chilling events  to hook you.  The icing of the cake is that the story is told in conversations alone . The storyteller in the author reveals in keeping the tempo till the end.

The book discusses the following points thru the social drama

The nexus between prehensile heads of big corporate companies and corrupt politicians.

The methodology adopted to settle the scores

The magic of pulling the strings to achieve the desired  ends.

The blurb calls the protagonist a charismatic VIP  of Arya   but she is also blessed with photogenic memory which helps her a lot .  She is aggressive acting with prudence and sharp intelligence

The gory  tale deals with the fraudulent indulgence and gruesome crimes .Eerie intense and well crafted novel transports readers to the corporate realm with all its ugliness and true colour albeit it flaunts a rosy picture with the extravagance   show.

My verdict

The  thriller is an amazing read for crime fiction lovers. The language is so good, you would enjoy the twists and turns which accelerate your reading .Especially this book is meant for class audience and others also can enjoy the tale.

Readers would be drawn into this novel which explores the grey areas of cheating, vices and criminal activities

The author who is fond of numbers has given a  thriller with all the masala enough to be made  into  a script for a movie.

The Editing is good. The font is small and paper quality is medium. . The cover and design by Gloworm Creations and the cover photograph Konsantin Kirillow/ Alamy stock photo are  fantastic.

A dazzling novel from the author of  weird and  inimitable riveting crime thriller . it evokes a spell binding concoction of crime , history , horror and adventure.

My score   5/5

Genre : Fiction. Romance , Love

My take

At Crossroads  GREED FOR LOVE AND THE LOVE OF MONEY is  an emotionally searing novel  of unusual romance and the amassing of wealth. This book from an authoress whose gorgeous and wise prose will stay long after you have finished it.

My attention in the first page grabbed  does not let go until the last page. I usually try to finish the book at the earliest  time. But this book I have taken longer time as I  have relished every page and I have got immersed in the story.

The Plot

A richly layered tale of love, ambition, and betrayal set against the backdrop of St Georges an urban center near London, revolving around the affluent personalities and their dreams and debacles . During the period of 90's and earlier decade of 2o the century.

It starts when there was no  internet and smart phone but ends with time during  the advent  of the same.  It is a twisting tale of secrets with  underlying creepiness.

There are three volumes , 43 chapters.
Each one starts  with  a notion related to the chapter.

This book tells the story of Lydia a young lady living at Glensfield. It starts with the interference of Frank living there in the love affair of Lydia with Victor. Frank writes a letter to Lydia  how their love cannot materialise as he is engaged with Amy. She leaves Glensfield and goes to  St .Georges . Frank who is interested in buying a cotton mill a sick unit at St Georges goes there. There  she meets Lydia after five years. His brother Oliver  lives along with wife Sara and daughter Samaira.   Lydia runs a garment manufacturing  unit L&L  and she wants to make big money for buying the Glass house which his father has lost due to debts.

Abel Frons shows crush for  Lydia and he wants to marry her. In the mean time she happens to get a big order from a Y&Y retail chain in London run by Timothy Banks  owner of  the same

From thereafter her story changes and so many happenings occur giving MCs both happiness and nightmares earning both friends and foes.

The Pro

I love the character  development of Lydia and  Frank .  Their personal tragedies and aspirations are well imagined .

This social drama of suspense and thrill  explores  the complexities of relationship, marriage and the dangerous truths they overlook  in the name of love and money.

Smita Maheswari  has created vivid fully developed characters and masterfully transports the reader to the era .The story flows in a coherent manner in the chronological order  ,

I like the title which fits it rightly in to the story. Also I like the subtitle Greed for love and love for money.  The story talks about the affluence people how they stoop to low level for making their love materialize and amass wealth.

I like the lyrical language , At times it is poetic, engaging  and the narrative descriptive prose keeps you hooked to the end. The pace is steady and even and there is no dragging element  to distract your reading. The concept is good and the authoress has taken all the efforts to give a neat execution.

Thanks e second part of the book deals mainly with international financial arena and there are so many terminologies and events related to stock market ,loss and gain. Those who are interested in these matters can relate them easily.

Volume three exclusively deals with the stock market during the period 2002 to 2008. On page 314  the Lehman’s sale the book gives an account.

My favorite

I like charectorisationof the quintessential protagonist  Lydia  blessed with beauty ,wit and wisdom.

Who can restrain himself from being captivated by grace, nobility and refinement all personified in such a one as her.

I admire following words of wisdom from the book .

A brilliant mind is nature’s curse in an undisciplined heart.

The only law that binds the soul is love.

Love does not understand reason and intellect can not comprehend the workings of the heart.

I like the way Lydia respects the craftsmen from Crawford and  gives them a new life.
Both the title and subtitle are eye catching

Cover and its design are superb. The. Blurb is a powerful one.

What I feel

Arya ,Frank’s wife is sidelined in the story .  She appears in the first page and another time  when she visits Sara ‘s house.  Also there is a  lack of emotional bond between them albeit they are living together for more than a decade.

My verdict

Perfect characters, an involved storyline and surprising  ending. This book you have to reread many a times.  A beautifully written book exquisite in its sense of place and understanding of the flaws in human nature. This a tale of how they become broken and get thru the process of healing.

Smita Maheswari , a gold medalist in English literature has woven a beautiful literary gem and added a crown to the literary realm.

She  has spun a story that perceptively exploits joy or anguish of MCs .Funny, insightful.... She has used her oodles of talent to remind readers that human beings are caught in the web of emotions and sentiments Startling tragic and ultimately redemptive.

There are many ideas to giver food for a lively discussion. I wholeheartedly recommend this book for a wide audience .

Very good plot with suitable subplots would make your reading a fantastic journey. Both the covers the design are superb.

I recommend this literary gem to all fans of romantic Fiction and you will find the book entertaining and worth reading. All bibliophiles can add this book to their shelf .

My score : 5/5
